Admission procedure and evaluation criteria

The qualifying exam consists of a written test and an oral test.
Written test
The written test will be focused on the description of a research project on one of the topics of the PhD Course in Energy and Environment, which the candidate would like to investigate in case of admission.
The criteria for the evaluation of the written test will take into account the originality of the research project, the clarity and completeness of the project aims and strategies, the candidate's ability to define and organize the research project, the feasibility of the project and the expected outcomes, as well as the results obtained by the candidate in previous research activities.
The evaluation is based on a scale from 0 to 60 points awarded according to the following criteria:
a) Originality of the project: from 0 to 14 points.
b) Clarity and completeness of the project aims and strategies: from 0 to 14 points.
c) Organization of the project: from 0 to 14 points.
d) Feasibility of the project: from 0 to 14 points.
e) Previous researches conducted by the candidate on the topic of the project: from 0 to 4 points.
The final score will be given by the sum of the awarded points.
Only candidates scoring at least 40 points will pass the written test.

Oral test
The oral test will be focused on the discussion and deepening of the research project described in the written test, as well as on the discussion of the general topics related to the project and on the research activities previously conducted on topics typical of the PhD Course in Energy and Environment.
The knowledge of the English language will be ascertained during the oral test.
The criteria for the evaluation of the oral test will take into account the candidate's knowledge of the topics related to the proposed research project, the candidate's awareness of the national and international context of the research, the clarity of the exposition, and the research experiences gained on topics typical of the PhD Course in Energy and Environment.
The evaluation is based on a scale from 0 to 60 points awarded according to the following criteria:
a) Knowledge of the general topics related to the research project: from 0 to 14 points.
b) Knowledge of the topics of the research project: from 0 to 14 points.
c) Awareness of the national and international context of the research: from 0 to 14 points.
d) Clarity of the exposition: from 0 to 14 points.
e) Research experiences gained by the candidate on topics typical of the PhD Course in Energy and Environment: from 0 to 4 points.
The final score will be given by the sum of the awarded points.
Only candidates scoring at least 40 points will pass the oral test.
