Internationalization and Mobility

Mobility is expected to occur only toward structures, with which there are or will be created "ad hoc" collaboration agreements, or student programs, activities, and research projects, involving the members of the PhD Board of Teachers or any other structure of Sapienza University of Rome. The mobility of PhD students may be addressed to Italian as well as to foreign universities and organizations. Among the foreign institutions, a number of possible destinations based on existing agreements/activities are listed below.

Some of the centers, companies and government agencies, with which there are joint research

activities, and which then represent potential mobility destinations, are for example: IBM

International (I), Nitidor Italia (I), ISPRA (I), CEA (F), AMEC (UK), EDF (F), RSE (I), ENEA(I), KTI (D), PSI

(CH), IMET (I), Autostrade (I), FS(I), ASI (I), ESA (NL), Thales Alenia Space Italia (I), Aerosekur (I),

AgustaWestland (I), CIRA (I), Telespazio(I), Northrop Grumman Italia (I), CNR/IMAA (I), CNR/IAA (I),

GS (I), JRC (I), EGeos (I), Cesefor (ES), PDVSA (Venezuela), RCMRD - Regional Centre for Monitoring

of Resources for Development (Kenia), CNRS-IRAA (F), DLR (Germany) , SERCO (UK), ENI (I), ACEA (I), ENEL (I).

The students training may include a period spent abroad or in Italy, at universities or research

facilities, private or public, in order to study and deepen the topics of their research/thesis; such a

mobility, lasting 3-12 months, will be proposed by the tutor, or by the student, and, in any case,

must be approved by the PhD Board of Teachers. The criteria to approve the mobility of the

students are directly connected with the consistency betweeb the scientific relevance of the

activities that take place in the hosting structure with the subject of the research/thesis, as well as

with the existence of a collaboration agreement. Mobility will preferably occur during the second

year of the PhD course, provided that a financial support is available and that the student has

achieved at least all the credits required for the first year. Possible funding to meet the costs of

mobility periods are represented by the increase of 50% scholarship (for students who receive it),

economical resources of the PhD course, departmental research funds (PRIN projects, university

funds, European projects, research contracts, etc.) managed by the members of the PhD Board of

Teachers. Mobility will be encouraged through a policy oriented to establish as many contacts as

possible among our students and researchers/ students from other institutions, to ensure an

exchange of information and collaboration in research and study, supporting the creation of a

network of expertise. PhD students will also be encouraged to attend conferences and workshops.

From a logistical point of view, the accommodation in a university campus will be promoted, in

order to enhance the integration among students/researchers coming from different countries.
